Simple Saturday: Ploughman’s Lunch

I know how you live…busy lives with activities packed into your schedule.

It easily happens to all of us.

I also know that sometimes you do not want to come home from work and make a big supper for everyone.

Sometimes you just want to make dinner into an epic, tasty, clean-out-the-fridge snack.

To make it more concise, we’ll call it a Ploughman’s Lunch. This was something I used to see on pub menus in England, and it usually consists of a hunk of bread, a good cheese, some fruit, maybe some veggies and some sort of fruit compote, perhaps.

I love the idea of the Ploughman’s Lunch as a dinner (or lunch) because you can just eat a few bites of really tasty things and have fun combining them and creating new flavor profiles.

We used to do a version of this at my in-laws where Jason’s mom put out a bowl of popcorn, a plate of cheese and apple slices, as well as some bread or bagel pieces.

So, the next time, you’re needing a quick meal idea, think about transporting yourself to the olde English pub with a Ploughman’s Lunch. Make sure you start out with really great ingredients, so each bite is delicious, even on its own.

For this plate that I made, I combined local rye bread, New Zealand sharp cheddar cheese, Gala apple slices, carrot sticks and tasty mustard.

Happy Simple Snack/Meal Saturday!
