Creamy New Potatoes

When you read “a southern treat” what do you think?

Are you imaging your grandmother’s tart lemon bars or maybe a summer’s best peach cobbler with homemade vanilla ice cream?

I can definitely see my mind going down those paths.

But, in this case, this southern treat is not of the sweet variety…but it is of the non-healthy variety.

(But it uses local ingredients. Does that count for something?)

This indulgent side dish is Creamy New Potatoes.

A few weeks ago, I picked up a little turquoise carton of new potatoes at the farmers market that were calling my name. Then, when I was talking to my mom about said potatoes, she reminded me of her Creamy New Potato recipe that goes straight back to her Kentucky roots.

When I made these for Jason and myself, I was instantly taken back to childhood memories of Southern feasts of the best vegetables in a variety of colors crowding my dinner plate. The Southern veggie plate was a staple at our house (and at our local Dixie Cafe).

These potatoes only take a handful of ingredients, and the new potatoes taste just as creamy as the Old Bay-spiced white cream sauce.

Enjoy this taste of my Southern upbringing!
