Pumpkin Cranberry Scones

Lately I’ve been meeting a lot of new people in the midst of my travels, and it’s interesting how I feel like I keep getting asked, “What’s your favorite thing to cook.”

When people found out that I love to cook or that I’m a food blogger, this question is almost a sure bet. And how nice of them to ask such a thing. What a blessing to meet new, inquisitive people.

When I answer this question, I find myself going straight to my love of baked goods and scones.

Scones contain a lot of things that inspire my senses- a crunchy outer, soft, cake-like inner, spices, and all kinds of sweet and savory things can be hidden inside.

It’s rather difficult to name something that won’t go well in a scone. I love chocolate chips, nuts, fruit, and savory scones with bacon or goat cheese are some of my favorite finds at bakeries when I travel to new cities.

So, today, in honor of the humble scone, I offer you this seasonally-inspired gem, studded with cranberries, tinted slightly from pumpkin puree and spiced with some of my favorite warm tastes of the season (cinnamon, cloves, ginger and nutmeg).

And, there’s butter (and buttermilk) to make it all come together. I’m tapping into my British and Southern roots all in one here.

P.S. Christmas is in less than a week (and these wouldn’t be a bad idea for a family brunch).
