Ingredient of the Month: Everything But the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend

This Ingredient of the Month is a little different than most.

First of all, although I love Trader Joe’s, this is not a sponsored post. I just really enjoy shopping at TJ’s and using emany of their products.

Second of all, this ingredient is technically a spice or seasoning mix, but it’s so versatile that I think it fits perfectly in this blog series.

Thirdly, apparently you can now buy this stuff on Amazon and even Wal-Mart, so it’s getting quite accessible. Also, if you don’t live near a Trader Joe’s, I would consider moving.

Tell me more about Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning:

What I like to call “everything bagel seasoning” (to shorten the title) is a seasoning blend of sea salt, garlic, onion, sesame seeds, black sesame seeds and poppy seeds in a small, shakeable jar. It gets the name from seasonings and flavors similar to that of an everything bagel.

Where can I buy everything bagel seasoning:

At your local Trader Joe’s store in the spice section is the easiest place to find it, but as mentioned above, you can also order it online.

How do I store everything bagel seasoning:

I store my everything bagel seasoning with the rest of my spices in my pantry (aka a cool, dark place).

How do I cook with everything bagel seasoning:

Oooh, boy. Here’s where it gets interesting. It’s so handy that this seasoning is in a shaker jar because you can literally just shake some on any number of dishes.

My favorite use has to be avocado toast. Toast your bread, top with slightly mashed avocado, then sprinkle with a nice layer of everything bagel seasoning. It’s just the right amount of savory flavor and crunch.

Here are other ways I like to use everything bagel seasoning:

  • On top of scrambled or fried eggs
  • On top of rice, stir fry or your favorite rice bowl (poke bowl, anyone?!)
  • A finishing touch to grilled, roasted or sauteed asparagus, broccoli or kale
  • Jazz up homemade crackers before baking
  • Throw on top of your favorite popcorn
  • Top your hummus or hummus toast
  • Go bagel squared by putting it on the cream cheese of your bagel
  • Add it to your homemade chicken nuggets
  • Bake fresh bread? Throw some seasoning on there!
  • Add to your baked potato toppings
  • Throw on top of your salad for an extra flavor punch
