N.C. One Bite at a Time (Part 12)

I can’t believe it’s been a full four months since I posted about our NC adventures!

The seasons have changed, the weather has cooled, and there’s still so much to do and explore!

I hope you’ve been up to some fun adventures, as well.

So, here’s what’s been happening:

Brew N Que

If you’ve ever been to the Big Mike’s BBQ food truck, then you’ll be happy to know that they have a brick and mortar spot in Cary. It’s on Maynard Road and is part bottle shop and part bbq dive. Get the Redneck Nachos…trust me!

Beasley’s Brunch

churros

I know Beasley’s Chicken and Honey is probably nothing new to you, and after 18 months living in Raleigh, I’ve had my fair share of biscuits and honey there. But, did you know that Beasley’s offers brunch…and churros? It’s also nice that many of their brunch items are under $10.

Durham Farmers’ Market

I happened to stumble across the Durham Farmers’ Market one evening and forgot how dang cute it is (I had been there years ago). You’re sure to find some unique local homegrown goodies here, including meats and cheeses!

Ko Kyu

I added a new food truck to my list with Ko Kyu. We got to try their sliders and waffle fries outside of the Durham science museum. So good!

Durham Museum of Life + Science

Speaking of the Museum of Life + Science, it’s such a cool place! We got the opportunity to go to an after hours event there (The Science of Sour), and it was such a treat! You can learn more about their adult programs on their website.

Pie Pushers

We also got to try out Pie Pushers at the museum, and the slice that I got was creative, flavorful and yet classic with sausage, peppers and basil. Wonderful crust and perfect toppings.

Lake Benson Park

Since we live near Garner now, I have really enjoyed utilizing our nearby parks, mainly Lake Benson. I’m pretty sure that this park has some of the happiest walkers around (everyone smiles and says hello). If you go, you can walk near the lake, through the trees or even connect to a greenway.

Porter Farms Ice Cream

I know that I’ve mentioned this wonderful farm stand in my neck of the woods, but I don’t think I’ve mentioned that they also have an ice cream shop. I’m talking local ice cream, made with cream from a local dairy farm and in the best flavors. I suggest the classic vanilla or birthday cake.

Ridgewood Wine & Beer

If you’re looking for a nice neighborhood bottle shop/wine shop and tasting room, check out Ridgewood. It’s right near Whole Foods on Wade Avenue and has a lovely selection and plenty of tables for an after-work happy hour meetup.

Five Star

After trying out Five Star at work a few months ago, my husband and I decided to get take out from there for a dinner in. The Sesame Beef is one of my favorites.

Hayes Barton Cafe

We also picked up a massive slice of cake from Hayes Barton for our fabulous night of eating in. If you live in the area, I feel like you’ve got to go to Hayes Barton for cake at least once. It’s one of the few places where you’ll pay $10 for a piece of cake and actually get your money’s worth.

Arepa Culture

Raleigh’s Arepa Culture came to our office recently, and it was a treat to try their arepas. I had one with chicken salad and the other with bbq and veggies.

Foundation Bar

I’m usually not keen on places that are underground, but I was impressed by how cool of a spot Foundation Bar is. They have some delicious hand-crafted cocktails and a fun vibe.

Beansprout Chinese

Speaking of Chinese, I’ve found my new spot for cheap Chinese takeout: Beansprout. When I say cheap, I mean $6 for several servings of tasty food. The Sesame Chicken and Sesame Tofu will totally fill your need for sweet/spicy comforting food with a big side of fried rice.

Capital Club 16 Brunch

You know how we covered new brunch explorations earlier? Here’s another. One of my favorite evening spots, Capitol Club 16, has a KILLER brunch. Pictured above is some of my favorite challah french toast ever!

Treat

There’s a new ice cream spot in downtown Raleigh, and it’s bringing us all of the flavors we love from Maple View Farms. Although you can’t get that rolling hills view from downtown, there are so many ice cream flavors, milkshakes and more to try.

That’s all for today, folks. Have fun exploring your city!
