N.C. One Bite at a Time (Part 20)

I have to say, it’s pretty appropriate that my 20th N.C. One Bite at a Time post is happening in Feburary (02) of 2020. Maybe that’s why it’s taken me so long to release another one of these!

You know that I haven’t stopped exploring the local scene, so that means there is a lot of good stuff to share in this post.

Let’s dive in!

Taipei 101

We’ve recently been on a roll of discovering local Chinese spots! Taipei 101 is located in DTC (or downtown Cary) and is a great place for Chinese food. I tried the eggplant with basil to go, which blew me away. I definitely want to go back to have a Chinese feast there sometime soon. Be warned, this place gets busy on weekend nights.

Szechuan Taste

I don’t know much about Szechuan food, but we really enjoyed the eats and experience at this place in Cary. We tried some classic favorites, like dumplings and won ton soup (the portions were great for sharing), and then some new-to-us dishes for our main course, like these sweet potato noodles and pork.

Benchwarmer’s Bagels (Pizza Night)

I mentioned our newish food hall in Raleigh, Transfer Co., in last year’s NCOBAAT post, but there are a lot of shops to explore within the hall. Benchwarmer’s Bagels has to be one of my favorites, and now they do pizza night on Thursdays and Fridays. Each weekend, they have special pizza topping and sides that are creative and tasty.

Alimentari at Left Bank

Here’s another place in Transfer Co. with a unique line of offerings. They’re not just a butcher shop. They also have fresh pasta, theme nights (like lasagna) and tigelle, which are kind of like little english muffins with a range of meat, cheese and sauce fillings.

Hello, Sailor

My sisters and I took a trip to Charlotte, and thankfully we realized we weren’t too far from Hello, Sailor. This place is like a fun, modern seafood joint with everything from perfect fried shrimp to arugula salad and the dreamiest dreamsicle soft serve. Can you tell I liked it?

Pooleside Pies

This is the newest spot from local restaurateur Ashley Christensen, and it’s all about the pizza. We really enjoyed sampling a few different kinds of pizzas, as well as some delightful desserts (hello, vanilla soft serve with olive oil and OBX sea salt!)

Warby Parker Store (North Hills Location)

You’ve probably heard of Warby Parker for glasses, but did you know that we have one of their stores locally? I have really benefitted from having a store close by when it comes to sizing and refitting new frames, trying on frames or just shopping around. The design of the shop is very lovely, too.

Wylde Flowers

My mom gifted me a flower arranging class at Wylde for my birthday, and I’m so glad it led me to discovering this sweet shop. They have stunning arrangements and the cutest little shop for all of your floral needs.

Animal Edventures

I had the chance to volunteer with some coworkers at this animal sanctuary nearby, and I couldn’t believe all the exotic animals we got to meet. Foxes, emus, kangaroos. This is a neat local organization to support!
