Scandinavian Secrets: Stay in

Scandinavians really know how to stay in and enjoy it. While they can be a social people, they make for great neighbors because they’re quiet and don’t go out regularly (especially when the weather is dark, wet and cold at night). And I really like learning that it’s OK to stay in and enjoy simple pleasures, like a home-cooked meal. I mean, the Danes even invented a way of life (hygge) out of this notion.

Although I haven’t been in many Scandinavian homes, the fact that we rarely see them out and about on the weekends tells me that they’re content to relax and rest in, and I really admire that.

Especially as the days get darker and weather more wet and windy, it’s nice not to have pressure to go out, spend money or try something new. What’s wrong with a good book or show, glass of Carlsberg and a cozy blanket?! And I find myself agreeing more each day.

In summary: It’s perfectly OK to stay in and enjoy a predictable peace at home.
